Abstract
An algebra, A, is a vector space together with a mapping A × A →A such that the conditions (M1) and (M2) below both hold. The image of two vectors x ∈ A, y ∈ A, under this mapping is called the product of x and y and will be denoted by xy.
In paragraphs one and two all vector spaces are defined over a fixed, but arbitrarily chosen field τ of characteristic 0.
