Abstract
The collection of papers dealing with the biosynthesis of elastin relate primarily to techniques and the phenomenology of soluble elastin secretion from cells. Studies related to lysyl oxidase are included as well, since this enzyme appears to control one of the key steps in the assembly of soluble elastin subunits into the mature fiber. For purposes of definition, the terms soluble elastin and tropoelastin are used interchangeably throughout the presentations. The term proelastin is usually used to describe the putative precursor to tropo- or soluble elastin.
