Abstract
This paper deals with the development of a cartridge stand cooling water monitoring system for steel rolling mill at Haulbowline, Irish Steel. The program has been developed in PASCAL, which would run on an ‘AT’ series IBM PC-compatible computer. It features optional data capture from a bank of 24 electromagnetic flowmeters, three types of real-time graphic displays, in addition to past flow analysis.
There are twelve cartridge stands in the mill train at the plant, each of which has two cooling water supply pipes. Since the disruption of the cooling water supply results in considerable down-time, this system is a priority item for the plant’s capital budget.
