Abstract
Oxygen consumption of the total brain or of parts of the brain has been indirectly determined under different conditions by multiplying the cerebral arterio-venous oxygen difference by the total or regional flow. By this procedure only the mean oxygen consumption of a large area is determined and local differences in oxygen consumption cannot be detected.
