Abstract

Using the cryomicrophotometric method developed by GRUNEWALD and LUBBERS (1975, 1976) the local myoglobin-O2-saturation was determined in muscle sections of chicken gizzard in the form of so-called myoglobin-O2-saturation profiles (MbsO2-profiles). Because of its high affinity towards oxygen, myoglobin is an excellent indicator for oxygen, especially for small PO2-values as they may occur in the tissue. From the MbO2-profiles quantitative results on the O2-transport in the tissue can be derived.
