Abstract
A report is given of a theoretical analysis of the influence of a strong but non-resonant optical field on phase transitions in ferroelectrics. It is shown that the nonlinear properties of a ferroelectric give rise to an additional ordering of elementary dipoles, and, as a result, the transition temperature rises. It is found that, in some cases, the phase transition apparently smears out. An estimate is obtained of the transition temperature rise as a function of the field intensity.
