Abstract

E605 aims to study the production of single hadrons, pairs of hadrons and dileptons at large transverse momenta in 800 GeV proton-nucleus collisions. The design feature of the detector can be summarized as follows:

  1. 1.

Measurement of particles with high pT up to 10 GeV/c or higher.

  2. 2.

High mass resolution of less than 0.2% for pairs.

  3. 3.

Excellent identification of particle species of e/μ/π/K/p.

  4. 4.

High luminosity and a large angular acceptance.
