Abstract
Einstein’s general relativity theory (GRT), while remaining the recognized foundation of gravitational theory, is in no way devoid of some serious difficulties, as seems to be more and more accepted by the physics community today. To declare this openly requires courage of the kind so admirably evinced by Wolfgang Yourgrau. He stimulated vivid discussions on these and other fundamental problems, which is one reason his memory will forever remain alive among his many friends and colleagues.
