Abstract
Literally hundred of powerful cationic complexing agents have been prepared in the past 25 years, with the synthetic multidentate macrocycles receiving the greatest attention.1 Macrocyclic oligomers of ethylene oxide, termed crown ethers, have warranted extensive investigation due to their extremely high binding constants for typical cations such as Na+, K+ and Li+ compared to linear analogs.
