Anatomy of the Lumbar Spinal Canal

  • Chapter
Human Achondroplasia

Part of the book series: Basic Life Sciences ((BLSC,volume 48))

Abstract

An understanding of the anatomy of the lumbar spinal canal in achondroplasia is necessary for the planning of the treatment of spinal stenosis and other neurological symptoms. With this knowledge a systematic approach to these problems is possible. Due to the defect in enchondral ossification, there are resultant vertebral abnormalities. Three areas will be covered: 1) spine length, 2) sagittal deformities, and 3) the cross-sectional area.
