Abstract

Sample handling in the field of absorption spectroscopy is discussed. In the solids, the following categories are described: oil mull, film from solution, dissolution in suitable solvent, pellet, microtomed slices, liquefaction by heat, and thermal decomposition. Liquid sample preparation is covered by three methods: films, dissolution in suitable solvent, and solidification by freezing. Direct examination, liquefaction, and trapping are employed with gaseous and vaporous samples.
