Abstract
A gas chromatographic procedure to analyze rumen fluids for the low molecular weight fatty acids through n-valeric acid has been developed. The method requires little pretreatment of the rumen sample. The column developed for the analysis overcomes many difficulties associated with the gas chromatographic analysis of very polar materials in aqueous media.
