Part of the book series: Developments in Applied Spectroscopy ((DAIS,volume 4))

Abstract

Synthetic and natural fibers have been analyzed by infrared spectroscopy in the past only after special sample preparation, such as mulling and pelletizing in KBr or by casting a film. Internal reflection spectroscopy offers a new method of examining and identifying fibers and fabrics directly with little, if any, special treatment. Textile fiber and fabric, internal-reflection, sample holders are described, and infrared spectra of a number of representative samples are shown.
