Abstract
A review of the major trends and achievements in flame emission spectroscopy for the last three years will be broken down into these several categories: Improvements in equipment components, flames and their composition, combustion pattern, feed rate, and interference effects. The use of organic solvents has continued to increase, and, in conjunction with fuel-rich flames or with observation of spectra from restricted areas of the combustion zone, has extended the utility of flame photometry to many elements whose emission lines are now observed in unusual strength. Gradually some of the factors which influence the intensity of emission spectra are being unraveled.
