Abstract
In order to discuss self-decomposition effects in labeled compounds, it is desirable first to review radiation chemistry of organic compounds. Under the influence of ionizing radiation (alpha, beta, and gamma rays), organic compounds undergo chemical changes resulting in fragmentation, polymerization, and isomerization. Synthetic processes are as important as degradative processes in these changes. In the radiation chemistry of a given compound a few chemical products usually predominate. In addition, a great variety of other chemical products may be produced from a single pure substance [1–4].
