The Measurement and Interpretation of Vibrational Spectra of Molecular Complexes

  • Chapter
Spectroscopy and Structure of Molecular Complexes

Abstract

This chapter is intended to be a link between the expected spectral changes outlined in some detail in chapter 1 and the bulk of experimental data presented in chapters 3–7. We have attempted here to discuss the relative merits of the various experimental techniques available, and the general type of results which are obtained. We have also tried to show how the data may be interpreted in the light of theoretically based predictions. To do this we have chosen only a few of the better-known complexes for which there is a relatively large amount of data or for which particularly definitive data are available.
