Abstract
The variational formalism presented in Chapter 2 makes use of matrix elements of the operator H — E, where H is the (N + 1)-electron Hamiltonian, between antisymmetrized electronic wave functions. Such matrix elements are required in Eq. (2.9) for the matrix variational method. Similar matrix elements occur in Eq. (2.251), for the (N + 1)-electron hybrid method based on the Schwinger variational principle.
