Abstract
The evolution of the compression wave which forms on laser impact on a plane solid target has been followed by streak- and framing photography. Using known Hugoniot-data a peak pressure of 2.5 Mbar and a density increase ρ/ρo = 2.3 has been measured in plexiglass.
Presented at the Third Workshop on “Laser Interaction and Related Plasma Phenomena” held at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, New York, August 13–17, 1973.
