Abstract
Using the supermultiplet and SU(3) classification scheme, a systematic method for the choice of configurations has been applied to T=0 positive parity states of 24Mg. It consists in diagonalizing the Hamiltonian in small vector spaces carrying the set of quantum numbers [λ], (λμ), L, S, T, J and taking these energies as a criterion for the states to be truncated. Very recent calculations including states of symmetry [44] [431] and [422] show that in addition to central forces, the T=1 S=1 tensor force is needed to reproduce the experimental spectrum below 10 MeV. Then K=0 and K=2 bands have prominent SU(3) components (8,4) and (9,2) of symmetries [44] and [431] respectively.
