Abstract
Affective disorders are characterized by episodic alterations in mood and physiological functions indicating that these illnesses may be considered as biological clock disorders. This paper reviews some of the data on biological rhythm disturbances in affective illness with special reference to circadian alterations in secretion of pituitary and pineal hormones and disturbances in sleep EEG parameters in depressive illness.
