Photodermatoses

  • Chapter

Part of the book series: Photobiology ((PB))

Abstract

Under the term photodermatoses or light-dependent (light-influenced) skin diseases we intend to deal here with those changes in the skin that are caused, initiated, or aggravated by light. The structure of the skin is complex and its possible modes of reaction numerous. Therefore, it is not surprising that a large number of such skin diseases has been described. It is thus necessary to have as logical a classification as possible based on physiologic photoreaction. These reactions will be described briefly by way of introduction.
