Abstract

With improved instrumentation and technique, it is now possible by means of the parotid secretion to make a direct comparison of the conditional responses described by Pavlov in animals with those in man. In addition to changes in the conditional reactions, the series of fluctuations that characterize the salivary curve in eucrasia are modified in abnormal states. A low flat curve tends to be associated with depression of spirits; a high flat curve tends to be associated with anxiety symptoms.
