Abstract
Endotoxin have been incriminated in the pathogenesis of acute renal failure in liver disease1,2. The altered renal function has been attributed to intense renal vasoconstriction and to a fall in renal perfusion pressure. Many authors3,4,5,6,7,8,9 postulated that the vasoconstriction was due to both a direct local action of endotoxin on the renal vascular bed and to secondary systemic release of vasocontrictor agents during the systemic hypotension. In an attempt to separate the systemic hemodynamic effects of endotoxin from a direct action of these substances on the kidney, we studied the influence of exogenous endotoxin on isolated dog kidney perfusions.
