Abstract
Ultrastructural changes of the capillary in the myocardium of the volume over-loaded hearts are not well understood. Recently we have shown that endothelial ceU proliferation is observed in the flow loaded canine and rat carotid arteries (Masuda et al., 1985; Tohda et al., 1988). We suppose that the endothelial ceU will respond to the flow change in the capillaries of the myocardium of the volume-loaded hearts, because flow is expected to be increased in them. In this report, we describe ultrastructural changes of the capiUaries of the left ventricle myocardium of volume-loaded rat hearts, produced by arterio-venous shunt (A-V shunt) between the common carotid artery and the external jugular vein.
