Abstract
One aspect of the scenario of cancer therapy is that both therapists and patients alike usually view cancer as fatal — a hopeless disease invariably concluding with terrible pain and death. Helping patients and their families to accept the inevitable becomes the main goal of therapy. With this “mental image,” too many cancer patients follow the self-fulfilling prophecy, take on the proscribed role, suffer and die.
