Examination of Conditions in Supercritical Fluid Chromatography for Analysis of Ecdysteroids

  • Chapter
Chromatography and Isolation of Insect Hormones and Pheromones

Part of the book series: Chromatographic Society Symposium Series ((CSSS))

Summary

Ecdysteroids can be chromatographed with a supercritical fluid as the mobile phase in equipment adapted from high pressure liquid chromatography. A variety of columns (both normal and reversed-phase) have been applied under a range of conditions to learn something of the optimum conditions to be used. Temperature had little effect compared to the choice of stationary phase and proportion of methanol in the supercritical fluid. Chromatography was both fast and sensitive but as yet separation is not as efficient as that obtained in liquid chromatography.
