Abstract
The Great European Spruce bark beetle, D. micans, is a major pest of spruce from eastern Siberia to the west of Europe. The first reported outbreak of D. micans in Britain was in 1982 but the earliest attacks probably occurred in 1973. It breeds under the bark of the spruce tree causing gradual death of the tree and its natural enemy is the bark beetle, Rhizophagus grandis Gyl. (Coleoptera Rhizophagidae).
