Abstract

In vitro imaging is a broad topic, with books written on each subtopic discussed in summary form in this chapter. Thus, the presentation cannot be comprehensive, but presents principles and examples in areas of current interest in pharmacokinetics in which we have had some experience. The discussion starts with front end devices for data acquisition, and then considers the different elements in the imaging chain. Autoradiography (ARG) systems are described in detail to indicate some of the techniques common to film and digital image analysis systems, as well as to illustrate selected biological applications. The discussion concludes with selected examples from oncology and cardiology research.
