Abstract

Synaptic channels opened by glutamate and GABA have been examined in locust muscle fibers and cultured cerebellar neurons of the rat. In both systems, the receptors are readily accessible to techniques such as noise analysis (Katz and Miledi, 1972; Anderson and Stevens, 1973) and single channel recording (Neher et al., 1978; Hamill et al., 1981), allowing basic information to be obtained about amino acid activated receptor-channels.
