Abstract

As the title of the session indicates, this portion of the conference was devoted to studies which attempted to elucidate the mechanism of action of juvenile hormone (JH) at the molecular level. The common thread connecting all of the papers was the belief that JH acts by regulating macromolecular synthesis, in particular, the synthesis of specific proteins. In its morphogenetic role, it has usually been considered that JH acts negatively to block the synthesis of proteins characteristic of later developmental stages, and an example of this effect was given in the paper by Fristrom et al.
