Abstract

Lipoxygenase products of arachidonic acid are important lipid mediators in inflammatory responses, immunity, and other physiological and pathophysiological processes (1). Recently, a new class of conjugated trihyroxytetraenes derived from oxygenation of arachidonic acid (AA) and eicosapentatenoic acid (EPA) via interactions between the 5- and 15 lipoxygenase pathways have been reported by Serhan et al. (2) and Wong et al. (3). This novel group of compounds are denoted as “Lipoxin” (LX) A4/B4 and A5/B5, respectively.
