Abstract
In times of progressing forest decline efforts on the preservation of genetic resources and on new approaches to the vegetative propagation from proven mature trees gain in significance. Since most forest trees are difficult to propagate from stem cuttings past their juvenile stage in-vitro-culture methods are currently being applied. Protoplast culture would allow the establishment of in-vitro-techniques for genetic preservation, vegetative propagation and somatic hybridization, if in addition methods for plant regeneration from protoplast-derived clones could be developed.
