Abstract

In the Upper Cretaceous unequivocal marsupials and placentals were in existence, and the early stages of mammalian evolution, which form the subject of this book, are definitely over. Hence only a brief mention of the faunas of the Upper Cretaceous will be made here. For those interested in these faunas, there is a good account and full references to the literature in Mesozoic Mammals (1979) (Lillegraven, Kielan-Jaworowska and Clemens (eds.), University of California Press, Berkeley).
