Pharmacological Intervention in the Aging Process

Abstract

A series of studies from our laboratory concerning the nature and mechanism of age-associated alterations in the function of the heart was discussed at the First Philadelphia Symposium on Aging in 1974 (1). Our laboratory has continued to pursue this type of investigation both in animals and man. This presentation will focus on our more recent studies and integrate this information into the body of knowledge that exists on the aging heart. I would like to acknowledge the pioneering efforts of Dr. Nathan W. Shock who founded our laboratory in 1968 and who guided its course since that time. In addition, I would like to identify the principal investigators involved in these studies. These are: Mrs. Elisie Beard, Dr. Jeffrey Froehlich, Dr. Gary Gerstenblith, Dr. Harold Spurgeon, Dr. Myron Weisfeldt, and Dr. Frank Yin.
