Abstract

The several components comprising an atomic absorption instrument are well known to emission spectroscopists. Nevertheless, the relative merits of these components and their influence upon the sensitivity of their interrelationship have not yet been well defined. The relative noise contributed by the hollow cathode, flame, and measuring system has been investigated and will be reported in this paper. Methods for improving analytical sensitivity will be illustrated by typical examples.
