Abstract

The language Vassal is a system for automatic memory allocation in the machine M-20 when a teletype input devise is available. The principles utilized in this language are similar to those in which certain earlier automatic programming languages (called “Assemblers”) were based on the USA and may be easily adapted to any computer. The language Vassal is substantially different from automatic memory allocation systems currently used in the USSR [1, 2]. Since the need for hand programming will not disappear in the near future, simple automation systems of the type of Vassal will find useful application.
