Abstract
Under simple hypothesis, the following statements are proved in a φ4 field theory: (1) The coupling constant is continuous in the parameters, e.g. as the scaling limit is approached or as ultraviolet cutoffs are removed. (2) Zero coupling corresponds to a free field or a generalized free field. (3) Different types of amputation in the definition of the coupling constant differ only by a finite nonzero factor.
