Abstract

Experimental results on heavy isomers undergoing spontaneous fission are analyzed. The two-humped model for the fission barrier is found to agree qualitatively with experiment. A systematic study is made of the spontaneous-fission half-lives, and promising directions for further experimental study are pointed out.
