Cholesterol-Lowering in Man

  • Chapter

Part of the book series: Advances in Experimental Medicine and Biology ((AEMB,volume 26))

Abstract

Discussions of the question before this panel frequently take a disturbingly illogical course. I refer to the following common argument: the cholesterol hypothesis, we are told, has been before us for decades, and the possibility of prevention has been under study in man for twelve or fifteen years. These studies have not proved that dietary cholesterol-lowering can prevent coronary heart disease (CHD), and therefore, it is alleged, we should abandon this hypothesis.
