Abstract
In 1963, it was suggested that steriods containing electrophoric groups could be detected by the electron capture cell following gas-phase chromatography [1,2]. Subsequent to these publications, our laboratory observed that the chloroacetate of pure testosterone and of pure 20-reduced progesterone could be detected in submicrogram amounts by electron capture [3]. Methods were later developed for the estimation of testosterone [3], estradio[4, 5], and progesterone [6] in biological fluids utilizing electron capture of steroid chloroacetates.
