Abstract
The role of “Mahaim fibers” in the genesis of cardiac arrhythmias in man has been controversial since they were first described [1]. The initial report was limited to fibers connecting the His bundle to the septum but this was soon broadened to include fibers connecting the atrioventricular (AV) node to the septum. Although the existence of these has been confirmed anatomically [2–25], their functional significance has remained controversial [26–80].
