Abstract
In ยง2.4.4 the idea of representing sinusoidally varying quantities by means of vectors is introduced. In very simple problems vectors may be combined without undue difficulty. As the problems become more difficult however the algebra and triogonometry become exessively tedious and a simplifying technique is thus necessary. In this chapter the operator j will be introduced and it will be shown how apparently lengthy problems may be solved more simply.
