Abstract
A large number of plant products containing the C6 — C3 — C6, skeleton were grouped under the term flavonoids, are widely distributed in the plant materials. The recent discovery of a new class of natural products related to the flavonoids among the Gymnosperms were unexpected. They have been designated as biflavonyls to indicate that their structure contain two flavonoid units. (Baker and Ollis, 1961, Murti et al., 1967, Ramaswamy, 1970). The chemistry of the biflavonyls used in the study are given in Fig. 1 and 2.
