Part of the book series: Advances in Experimental Medicine and Biology ((AEMB,volume 21))

Abstract

Several peptides contract the gall bladder in the guinea pig, cat, dog, chicken and in man: Cholecystokinin-Pankreozymin (CCK-PZ) (Ivy and Oldberg, 1928) and its C-terminal octapeptide (CTO) (Mutt and Jorpes,1968; Rubin et al., 1969; Ondetti et al., 1970; Hedner,1970), caerulein (Bertaccini et al., 1968, 1969, 1970; Agosti et al., 1971), substance P (SP) and a physalaemin-like octapeptide (P 30) (Starke et al., 1968). A concommitant relaxation of the sphincter of Oddi by CCK-PZ and CTO was reported in the cat (Hedner, 1970), and by caerulein in the guinea pig (Bertaccini et al., 1968), dog and in man (Lin and Spray, 1969), but a spasmogenic effect on the isolated ductus choledochus of the calf (Agosti et al., 1971).
