Abstract

The syndrome of artero-venous hyperstomia of the thigh described by one of us consists of:

  1. 1)

The presence of an abnormally rapid passage of blood from the arteries to the veins in the district of the deep femoral artery; this passage is effected along channels which differ from both nutritional microvessels and large artero-venous fistulae.

  2. 2)

The consequent “steal” of blood to the detriment of the superficial femoral artery and to the advantage of the deep femoral artery; this “steal” brings about a circulatory insufficiency in the leg and foot, which reveals itself in a particular type of ntermittent claudication.
