Abstract
Increased productivity and better working conditions in the area of reinforced concrete building construction are crucial issues in the construction industry. Over the last few years a great effort has been made in this field in Japan. In this paper the robot research and development activities by government, academic institutions and companies are introduced. We also introduce the Waseda Construction Robot (WASCOR) research project running at the System Science Institute and some of the problems to be solved for the successful introduction of robots into this industry.
