Abstract

The attack on cancer with drugs is based upon the thesis that it should be possible to discriminate against cancer cells while having only few or tolerable effects on normal cell populations. While many compounds have been screened for such activity over the past forty years, unfortu­nately most solid cancers respond either not at all, or to a limited extent only, to these selective agents.
