Abstract
The excitation of electrons by atomic particles with energies ranging from tens of electron volts to tens of kiloelectron volts in solids constitutes a problem of great scientific and practical interest. Up to the present time, information relating to this kind of excitation has usually been obtained by studying ion-electron emission in reflection; this information has proved inadequate for a complete explanation of the phenomena observed. Further investigations are required.
