Abstract

The departure from the oriented gas model is connected with the interaction of molecules in the crystal. First of all, we must expect that this interaction will lead to a transfer of energy from excited to unexcited molecules. Without mentioning exciton processes, the existence of which in molecular crystals follows from theory and is confirmed by experiment, as indicated in Chapter I, exchange of energy between molecules in a crystal must already take place by means of resonance transfer, similar to that which takes place in solutions at high concentrations.
