Abstract
Specific software for the processing of geological data is needed to optimize geostatistical, automatic mapping, and data analysis. The GEOL package is an interactive user-friendly system which is concerned with structures and algorithms specially designed and implemented to the handling of data encountered in geosciences. Several commands can manipulate, visualize, and analyze the data quickly from a database. The different recognized types of data are numerical, alphanumerical, logical, or of set type. They can be dimensionless or implicitly one-, two-, or three-dimensional gridded.
The GEOL package is an open system comprising: an editor (GMS) to execute calculus or any retrievals on variables in the GEOL Data Table, an interpolation program (INT) to convert an irregular observed data into a one-, or two-, three-dimensional grid, a multivariable statistical analysis program (GMST) and an automatic map-making program (MAP) to draw spatially distributed data as contour maps, block diagrams or 3D contour surfaces.
The integration and user-friendliness of the system make it easy to use even by beginners at computer science and adequate for teaching data-processing concepts.
